Microneedling in Nandyala
Collagen induction therapy through medical-grade microneedling โ a clinically proven approach to treating acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, and uneven skin texture. Dr. Sireesha at Yashvini Skin & Hair Clinic, Nandyala, offers standard microneedling, RF microneedling, and PRP combination therapy.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses a device โ either a motorised dermapen or a manual dermaroller โ fitted with fine medical-grade needles (typically 0.5โ2.5 mm in length) to create thousands of microscopic punctures (micro-injuries) in the skin at controlled depths. These micro-injuries are not damaging in the conventional sense โ rather, they trigger the skin's natural wound healing cascade, stimulating fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin. Over successive sessions, this remodelling process improves skin texture, reduces the depth of acne scars, tightens enlarged pores, and smooths fine lines.
The depth of needling is customised based on the skin concern: shallower settings (0.5โ1 mm) for pore refinement, skin texture, and product absorption enhancement; deeper settings (1.5โ2.5 mm) for acne scars and stretch marks. In radiofrequency (RF) microneedling, the needles deliver radiofrequency energy into the dermis simultaneously with the micro-injury, adding a second collagen stimulation stimulus and producing additional skin tightening. RF microneedling is particularly effective for loose skin, deeper acne scars, and patients seeking skin tightening alongside texture improvement.
Microneedling can be powerfully combined with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) โ a technique popularised as the 'vampire facial.' PRP is applied to the skin immediately after microneedling; the micro-channels created by the needles allow deep absorption of growth factors into the dermis, enhancing collagen synthesis and accelerating healing. The combination of PRP and microneedling has demonstrated superior results for atrophic acne scars compared to either treatment alone. A typical course consists of 4โ6 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, with results becoming progressively visible over 3โ6 months.
Causes
Symptoms & Types
Standard Microneedling (Dermapen / Dermaroller)
Motorised dermapen with adjustable needle depth for precise, reproducible micro-injury across the treatment area. Superior to manual rollers in terms of accuracy and ability to treat contoured areas (nose bridge, around the eyes). Suitable for acne scars, pores, texture, and mild fine lines.
RF Microneedling (Radiofrequency Microneedling)
Combines mechanical micro-injury with simultaneous delivery of radiofrequency energy deep into the dermis. The RF energy coagulates and remodels dermal tissue, producing more significant collagen tightening and remodelling than standard microneedling alone. Particularly effective for skin laxity, deeper scars, and facial contouring.
Microneedling + PRP (Vampire Facial)
PRP derived from the patient's own blood is applied over the skin immediately after microneedling. Growth factors (PDGF, VEGF, TGF-beta) are absorbed through micro-channels, significantly enhancing collagen synthesis and scar remodelling. Produces superior results for atrophic acne scars and overall rejuvenation.
Scalp Microneedling (for Hair Loss)
Microneedling applied to the scalp creates micro-injuries that stimulate scalp blood flow and follicle activity. When combined with topical minoxidil or PRP, scalp microneedling can significantly enhance the response in androgenetic alopecia and hair thinning.
Stretch Mark Microneedling
RF microneedling or deep standard microneedling can improve the texture and colour of stretch marks by stimulating collagen in the atrophic stretch mark dermis. Multiple sessions (6โ8) are typically needed for meaningful improvement. Results vary with stretch mark age and severity.
Treatment Options at Yashvini Clinic
Microneedling (Dermapen)
Motorised device with fine medical-grade needles creating uniform micro-channels at a precisely controlled depth. The gold standard for acne scar remodelling, pore refinement, and skin texture improvement. Sessions take 60โ90 minutes including anaesthetic application. 4โ6 sessions recommended.
RF Microneedling
Insulated gold-plated needles deliver fractional radiofrequency energy at precise dermal depths. Stimulates deeper collagen and elastin synthesis with skin-tightening effect beyond standard microneedling. 3โ4 sessions typically needed for moderate acne scars and skin laxity.
Microneedling + PRP
PRP prepared from the patient's blood is applied topically over the microneedled surface, where it is absorbed through micro-channels for deep growth factor delivery. Enhances healing, reduces redness post-procedure, and significantly amplifies the scar-remodelling and collagen-stimulating effects.
TCA CROSS (for Icepick Scars)
High-concentration TCA (70โ100%) applied focally into deep icepick scars using a fine applicator โ not a full-face peel. Triggers focal fibroplasia within the scar channel, gradually raising the scar base over multiple sessions. Highly effective for icepick scars resistant to standard microneedling.
Post-Procedure Growth Serum
Application of growth factor serums, hyaluronic acid, or exosome preparations immediately post-microneedling leverages the open micro-channels for enhanced product penetration and recovery support.
Maintenance Programme
After completing the initial course, maintenance sessions every 3โ4 months can sustain collagen remodelling. Combined with home-use retinoids and SPF 50+, maintenance microneedling supports long-term improvement in skin quality.
What to Expect
Before the Session
- Topical anaesthetic cream applied 45โ60 minutes before the procedure
- Discontinue retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and vitamin C serums 5โ7 days before
- Avoid sunburn โ do not proceed if skin is actively sunburned or acutely inflamed
- No waxing, threading, or laser treatments 1 week before the session
- Arrive with clean, make-up-free skin; do not apply oils or SPF on the day
During the Procedure
- Skin is cleansed and anaesthetic cream removed; the area is disinfected
- Dermapen is passed methodically across the treatment zones in multiple directions
- Mild pinching, pressure, or heat sensation is normal; significant pain is rare with adequate anaesthesia
- PRP applied over the skin (if PRP add-on) โ the patient's blood is processed before the session
- A soothing serum and barrier cream applied at the end; mild redness resembling sunburn is expected
After the Procedure
- Redness and mild swelling last 24โ48 hours; this is the expected inflammatory phase
- Apply prescribed barrier cream or soothing serum every 3โ4 hours for 48 hours
- Avoid washing the face with water for 6โ8 hours post-procedure
- Resume gentle cleansing after 24 hours; avoid active skincare products for 5โ7 days
- Results build progressively over 3โ6 months as collagen matures โ patience is key
